Lucent Technologies opts for Sify's services

The need :

Since the company is into the business of communications, Information Technology (IT) is considered to be an integral part of the organisation. And specifically, a company like Lucent, having 12 offices and more than a thousand employees across the country, an effective and reliable wide area connectivity is a must for the company. And, Lucent was always looking for a cost effective, reliable and scalable wide area connectivity option. After evaluating the available wide area connectivity options, way back in 2001, Lucent Technologies implemented Frame Relay and IP VPN network from Sify to ensure uninterrupted and timely flows of information.

"As leased lines and VSATs are relatively expensive and slower, we decided to go in for Frame Relay and IP VPN. And, this is the backbone for each and every activity in our organisation," says Manoj Arora, Chief Information Officer, Lucent Technologies. He further adds that with the implementation of this network, the network uptime has increased to a great extent. Today, depending on the location requirement and traffic generated from a particular location, they decide whether to connect through IP VPN or Frame Relay. Today, this communications major runs different enterprise application like Email, Web Services, ERP and intranet on this WAN (Wide Area Network) set up.

Apart from facilitating its business activities, this implementation is also helping the communications major in its external as well as internal communications. Both Frame Relay and IP VPN have helped the company in connecting all its locations across the country. This in turn has helped them in increasing their productivity to a great extent. Today, he proudly says that as far as scalability and reliability is concerned, the Frame Relay and IP VPN implementation has been very effective and exchange of relevant information between locations is much quicker. "Today, with IP VPN and Frame Relay, the infrastructure is significantly more reliable. It is also enhancing the available services and resources to our users," says Arora. He further adds that this infrastructure has also helped in quicker decision making and sharpening their competitive edge by compressing time to market. As far as the external communications is concerned, through this network they are able to provide much better services to their customers across the country.
