Understanding Multimedia Web Conferencing

While personal contact and face-to-face meetings are the lifeblood of business communications, in today’s business climate, it has become increasingly difficult to maintain travel budgets and deal with safety issues dogging business travel. Fortunately, multimedia web conferencing has emerged as a practical solution for conducting meetings.

Kale's requirements:

Globally, multimedia web-conferencing is fast replacing traditional means of group communications such as physical meetings, cost and infrastructureintensive video-conferencing and ‘faceless’ tele-conferencing. The key factors driving the rapid usage of web-conferencing are:

Cost Management: Pressures on organisations to control operations cost (resulting in significant reduction of travel and long distance telephony expenses).

Convenience:Ease-of-use (Multimedia web conferencing does not require huge investments in hardware/installations like Video Conferencing).

Convergence: Traditional audio and video conferencing solutions are gradually migrating to an IP-based platform further making webconferencing the defacto means of remote conferencing for businesses.

On today’s multimedia web conferencing platforms such as the ExpressMeetTM solution from Sify, you can setup a multi-user conference with just a basic Internet connection. Typically, Powerpoint presentations, Image files, documents and spreadsheets can be shared over a digitalwhiteboard on which geographically dispersed users on the Internet or a corporate Intranet can annotate, discuss and share views in real time.

Visual collaboration is enhanced with audio conferencing, text based chat and file sharing features. Multimedia web conferencing is ideal for quick review meetings, product training, intra-office collaboration, design collaboration and even eLearning/training requirements.
