Sify Mail Server - Linux (SLEMS)

 

 

SLEMS consists of three components

  • Mail Transfer Agent - Based on an optimized version of Qmail
  • Mail Delivery Agent - Developed at Sify.
  • Mail Retrieval Agent - Developed at Sify.

The Linux mail server has been tested for volumes as high as 450,000 transactions/day on a simple hardware comprising a Pentium II desktop having 512Mb RAM and operating on the RedHat Linux 7.1 OS.

In addition to all the above mentioned features we have customized and implemented a host of new and creative features.

  1. IMAP4 Rev1 and POP-3 Support
    Provides highly configurable out of the box IMAP and POP-3 Support.

  2. Support for very large no of Domains
    Support for 1 to 23 million virtual email domains using a "grow as it goes" balanced directory tree. Sify itself hosts 5000+ Corporate Domains using SLEMS

  3. Customization of Web-mail interface
    Color schemes & Logo customisation can be done to make the webmail pages appear customised to your requirement. This allows you to provide an integrated experience between the webmail and any intranet site that you may have.

  4. Users Per Domain
    Support for 1 to 23 million email users per domain using the same balanced tree structure. Sify currently supports 3 Million+ users currently with around 5000 users addition/day.

  5. Autoresponder Facility
    Autoresponder facility enables users to send customized automated replies. A typical example of this is vacation replies.

  6. Mail Filters
    Supports creation of very flexible server side filters - that can implement various permutations of conditions for filtering mails. Allows for better management and handling of mails coming in to the user's mailbox on the server itself, before it gets downloaded.

  7. Mail Migration
    Pull External mail using POP3 ( Server level setting using Web mail). Can be used for migration of mails from an old mail ID to a new mail ID.
    Also very useful to aggregate mails from multiple mail accounts.

  8. Bulletin Feature
    This feature delivers instant e-mail messages to all users using a single i-node and hence conserving disk space and disk IO. No other system in the world has this feature. This can be used to broadcast important company bulletins / flash news etc.

  9. Accounting
    • Last login/last authentication
    • Last password change
    • User addition date/time

  10. Statistics and Reports (Optional)
    • Total mails received/sent per day
    • Mails sent/received per user/Domain/IP
    • User additions per day

  11. Alerts (Optional)
    Email alerts to administrators for system abnormalities, queue status, system load.

  12. Administration Tools
    Easy to use and intuitive administration tools to manage the Mail System. alias, instant bulletins, quota, user administration, mailbox cleanup, accounting, security administration, etc)

  13. Logs
    Predefined path under which the logs are stored. The Logs can be viewed in human readable format. We maintain Logs separately for
    • POP3 Logs-POP3 connections with IP address and username
    • IMAP logs-IMAP connections with IP address and username
    • Delivery and Smtp logs- This will give the clear picture of incoming and outgoing mails, with reasons for the bounce backs if any.

  14. Reports
    User friendly Mail statistics report that can be run at any place.
    • This provide details of the domains to which mails sent, Traffic, From ID list, Statistics of Mail delivery , count of the mail, failure reasons, delay time etc
    • Reports of Data transfer incurred per domain (in GB per month)

  15. Antispam Plug-in Module
    This has following features :
    • Block Sender Functionality
    • Global Server level Blacklist - Private Blacklist
    • Global Server level Whitelist (Trusted Sender list) - Private Whitelist
    • RBLs / DNSBLs Lookup - Public Blacklists
    • Check valid User (Recipient) functionality
    • Domain specific valid recipient check.
    • Tarpitting functionality

  16. Mail Distributor (Optional)
    This provides distributed mailing functionality (and in fact it also works with any proprietary Solution supporting SMTP). Clients can get value add if they have any legacy mail servers supporting SMTP and want move out some users from legacy solution to the Open scalable solution, without changing the domain name, they can use this. Clients can also get out of existing legacy mailing solutions by deploying the relay server software without causing customer impact and downtimes.
