Sify
delivers comprehensive enterprise-class messaging
infrastructure for Carlson Wagonlit
Carlson Wagonlit
Travel (India) - (CWT) is a 50:50 joint venture
between AFL Indtravels and Carlson Wagonlit Travel
Ltd. and is in the business of offering travel
and tourism management services for corporates.
CWT's
Solution Requirements
CWT, which had
been using the mailing system of AFL Indtravels,
decided to set up and run its own full-fledged
mailing setup with a projected 300+ users. Some
of these users were also required to connect to
the Internet to access a Citrix application based
out of Australia. CWT's offices were connected
on both leased lines and dial up access and used
a third party network to serve travel reservation
applications.
CWT's messaging
setup needed to support both internal and external
mailing. Since the business relies heavily on
e-mail messaging for day-to-day communication
and critical operations, reliability and uptimes
was extremely vital. CWT had the option of running
either a centralized or a distributed mailing
setup.
The
Solution delivered by Sify
The Sify team
carried out an exhaustive analysis and architected
a comprehensive hybrid model incorporating both
centralized and distributed mailing to meet CWT's
requirements. Sify's hybrid solution delivers
far superior stability and availability of mailing
systems than a fully centralized system.
Often, implementing
a centralized mail setup attracts heavy simultaneous
logins thereby adversely impacting the network's
stability and accessibility.

Sify's hybrid solution
lets CWT run a centralized mail server - the Sify
Enterprise Mail Server (SEMS) - at their H.O in
Delhi while the regional locations run Sify's
Simple Mail Connect (SMC) solution to handle the
local LAN traffic.
Solution
Benefits
The hybrid solution
delivers a high-availability mailing system to
CWT supporting both internal and external mailing.
The solution also incorporates Broadband Internet
connectivity for:
- Sending and receiving Internet
mails.
- Allowing users from the Internet
- especially locations outside the existing
third party network, to reach the CWT mail
server.
- Enabling specified users to
access the Citrix application based out of
CWT's Australia office.
Sify's solution
also builds in back-ups through the SMTP Fallback
services to take care of situations when CWT's
own mail server is not available due to network
or system outages.
Further, by reconfiguring
the CWT mail to operate two subnets, one interfacing
the Sify network and the other interfacing with
the third party network, bandwidth utilization
as well as the server response time was significantly
improved.
