How a global home appliances leader is using IP VPN to keep its competitive edge?

Customer Profile: Our customer, Whirlpool operating in India for over 6 years, and one of the most reputed names in home appliances worldwide, has operations spread over 40 locations and over 4,000 dealers and service centers in India.

Network Infrastructure requirements: The customer was looking for a WAN solution to connect over 40 locations in India. The primary objective was to enable robust, reliable and secure data transfer across the locations in order to take full advantage of SAP. The customer had plans to implement messaging and call center to facilitate speedy intra-office communications.

Our customer's approach: The available option for the company was to either expand its existing but small VSAT network or to set up a private network using point-to-point terrestrial links. A third option, which was relatively a new concept in the year 2000, was to set up a Virtual Private Network. The customer, after having thorough evaluation and consultations with their US counterparts, decided to choose Sify's VPN solutions.

Key benefits to our customer

  • Choosing Sify's VPN solution over satellite-based VSAT network and point-to-point networks resulted in 30% cost savings for the company
  • Maximum coverage and access to Sify's private IP backbone locations across country
  • Highest levels of reliability and uptimes for SAP, messaging and call center applications, with uninterrupted service for over 3 years
  • Global connectivity to connect the customer's India network with its corporate databases in the United States
  • A high degree of flexibility and scalability. The customer has added a back-end design center in India to their network, which now caters to overseas market requirements

The future: Our customer is looking at expanding the applications to include Voice over IP, video conferencing and a HR information system. Further, the customer's VPN network infrastructure extends the reach of the network to their dealer and service center locations using remote access VPNs
